Sunderland Airshow 25th-26th July 2009

Newcastle International Airport (NIA) will play host to a number of aircraft participating in the Sunderland Airshow over the weekend of 25th/26th July 2009.

Whilst the main flying activities will occur on the above dates, aircraft will be arriving and departing on Fri 24th and Monday 27th July, including the arrival of the red arrows on Friday 24th at 19:00.  To celebrate the shows 21st anniversary a special fireworks display has been organised for Friday 25th July.  This will include a fly past, from a Dutch F16 at approximately 21:45.

The airshow display flying programme is scheduled to commence at 1200 and finish at 1700 on both Saturday and Sunday.  This year’s show includes the RAF Typhoon and Hawks.  The Red Arrows will also appear on both days between 1200-1223hrs.

All pilots will be reminded of the noise abatement procedures in place at NIA, which include avoiding flying directly over residential areas where possible.  Also, requests will be made for the use of low power settings and to undertake all arrivals and departures in such a manner as to minimise any impact on the local communities.  NIA Air Traffic Control will be in communication with the pilots throughout their operation and will therefore monitor compliance to above requirements.

NIA are aware of its responsibilities to its neighbours and is keen to work together to minimise the impact Airport operations have.
