Northumbria Police Temporary Chief Constable, Sue Sim, recognised the safety of Newcastle International Airport’s car parks yesterday by presenting the Airport’s Chief Executive, Dave Laws, with the Park Mark Safer Parking Award.
Historically, the Airport had three of its 11 car parks accredited with the award. Following a physical assessment for renewal, Newcastle has secured accreditation for eight additional on-site car parks. The assessment takes in management practice as well as the physical aspects of each area and was conducted by the Northumbria Police Architectural Liaison Office and the Regional Development Manager for the British Parking Association. The Airport’s part in the scheme demonstrates a commitment to creating high quality parking facilities with measures in place to reduce levels of crime.
Dave Laws said of the award: “The Park Mark accreditation is particularly desirable as it acts as a strong deterrent to criminal activity thus giving passengers the confidence that their vehicle will be safe when they travel from Newcastle. Passenger security and peace of mind is always a top priority for us.”
Phil Taylor, Safer Parking Scheme Development Manager, said: “The Safer Parking Scheme is an award the Police give to parking facilities which meet the standards set by them to reduce crime and the fear of crime within car parking areas. Newcastle International Airport has recently carried out extensive improvements to their parking facilities, which meet those physical and operational standards. The parking facilities are virtually crime free and provide the passengers using their facilities with a safe and non-threatening environment.”
The scheme is managed by the British Parking Association (BPA) and supported by the Home Office and Scottish Government. For more information visit www.britishparking.co.uk.
