Shopping weekends for this December are available from Jet2holidays for the purse friendly price of £599 per person including return flights, 10kg hand baggage and three-star hotel accommodation. Jet2holidays is urging the people of the North East to book now to avoid missing out on the region’s only direct service from Newcastle Airport to New York.

Jet2.com return flights to the Big Apple are also available from just £389.98 per person, including taxes and 10kg hand baggage. Hold baggage can be purchased separately at £19.99 each way for a generous 22kg allowance, in-flight entertainment for £15 each way and extra leg-room seats can be selected in advance for £24.99 each way.

To celebrate the landmark flights going on sale, the airline brought a slice of the Big Apple to the airport – complete with a special appearance from American style cheerleaders.

Flights will leave from Newcastle to New York’s Newark Airport for two shopping weekends on Thursday 1st December, returning 5th December, and Thursday 8th December, returning 12th December 2011. Passengers will all enjoy allocated seating in Jet2.com’s ergonomically designed seats which make the flight experience even more comfortable and relaxing.

Philip Meeson, boss of Jet2holidays and Jet2.com, said: “Following the overwhelming success of our Christmas shopping trips in 2010, we are thrilled to be able to offer them again this December with the launch of two weekend breaks to the Big Apple. Our passengers, and those who didn’t manage to book in time last year, have been calling for this route to be reintroduced and so we have responded with great value shopping trips at friendly flight times. We’re also being completely upfront with customers when it comes to booking flights, so the price they see initially is the price they pay with no hidden charges.

“Whether you’re looking to shop ‘til you drop in Saks, buy ‘the’ toy of the season from FAO Schwarz, see a show on Broadway, try an authentic Manhattan cocktail, or simply check out some of the world famous festive window displays book now – if demand is anything like last year, breaks are set to go faster than you can shout ‘Taxi’!”

Dave Laws, Chief Executive at Newcastle Airport, said: “The return of the New York shopping trips from Newcastle International with Jet2holidays is cause for celebration - we are absolutely delighted. Our partnership has grown significantly over the past year as Jet2.com makes further investments in the airport and the wider region. The special shopping trips were hugely popular with our customers when they were introduced in 2010, with both flights operating to capacity.

“Jet2.com and Jet2holidays offer North Easterners the chance to stock up for Christmas in the shopping capital of the world. We urge customers to book early so they don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to make a trip to the Big Apple from Newcastle an affordable and convenient reality.”
