New bespoke bins on hand for environment conscious passengers at Newcastle International
Unique to Newcastle International and designed by Wybone suppliers, the recycling units were installed in the Airport as part of The Recycle Zone project, a partnership which unites the collective expertise of Coca-Cola Enterprises, WRAP and Recoup to encourage more people to recycle more often.
This new venture is Coca-Cola Enterprises’ (CCE) first on-the-go recycling scheme in the North East, it aims to make recycling easy and accessible to the public. There are currently 52 zones across the Great Britain and a further 30 zones are planned to open by the end of 2010 with an ultimate aim to significantly reduce the amount of recyclable waste sent to landfill in the UK.
Helen Hughes, Environmental Advisor at Newcastle International said, “We’re continuously looking into new ways to improve our recycling procedures and are delighted with the introduction of the new on-the-go recycle units, we’re confident they will be a success! The terminal is a vast public space which millions of passengers travel through each year; we need to ensure that people find it as easy as possible to recycle before they jet off. Through the work with Coca-Cola and Recoup, we hope to see many new innovation initiatives to follow in the future which will benefit the environment”.
Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, CCE, Erika Coghlan said: “Recycling at home and in the workplace has become easier over recent years. However, recycling options in public areas are still limited. CCE are committed to reducing the impact packaging has on recycling as much as possible and, knowing that many of our products are consumed whilst ‘on-the-go’, we want to provide helpful and convenient recycling solutions to our customers no matter where they are.”
A spokesperson from WRAP/Zero Waste Scotland says: “WRAP/Zero Waste Scotland supports investment in ‘on the go’ recycling, we want to make it easier for people to recycle, wherever they are. Newcastle International should be congratulated for taking the lead on this important agenda.”
