About Dubrovnik:

Sitting on the most south easterly tip of the Croatian coast, Dubrovnik was designated a UNESCO world heritage site in 1979, providing lots of exciting things to discover and explore. The fortified walls skirting the town create a great walk with spectacular views of the city’s shiny white marble houses with glimpses of the beautiful crystal clear bay.

A short boat trip across to the wooded Lokrum Island is a cultural haven for those wanting to learn more about Dubrovnik’s interesting past. Visitors can explore the fortress and roam the beautiful botanical garden and monastery on the 72-hectare island where, according to legend, Richard the Lionheart was cast ashore after being shipwrecked in 1192.

For those looking for a more relaxing escape, Dubrovnik boasts several beaches including the main Banje public beach and the more secluded and stony beach named after Copacabana! Alternatively, a stroll around the Stadun – the main street – provides plenty of opportunity to cash in some kunas for some unusual Croatian keepsakes.

Some key events in Dubrovnik’s calendar are:
• The annual Summer Festival (July – August) is a fantastic 45-day cultural event with plenty of films, plays, music and games to really get into the spirit of the city. With past visitors including Kevin Spacey and Morgan Freeman it’s a must for any film buff.
• Sport enthusiasts will enjoy watching the Maraton Ladja (August), a traditional boat race which sees local villagers compete on a 22.5km course on the Neretva River.
• Music lovers will enjoy the Julian Rachlin & Friends festival of chamber music, which features world-renowned musicians led by Austrian violinist Julian Rachlin. Started in 2000, the festival features a series of concerts each year at wonderful landmarks across the city.
