Flybe and British Airways open up BA Gatwick routes to Newcastle Airport customers

This week Flybe and British Airways (BA) commenced a codeshare agreement on Flybe’s London Gatwick route from Newcastle International Airport. 

This means that customers wishing to access BA Gatwick destinations including the Caribbean, Florida, Maldives, Mauritius and a significant number of European destinations can now book their flight all seamlessly through from Newcastle to London Gatwick Airport with Flybe and connect onto their BA flight with their baggage checked all the way through.

Chris Sanders, Aviation Development Director at Newcastle International Airport, said: “This new facility makes it a lot easier to use London Gatwick for onwards connections by British Airways and opens up many more travel options from your local airport offering savings in time and money.  Whether you are considering taking the family to Florida or fancy a relaxing time in the Caribbean, this new arrangement makes it a lot easier.  There are a number of European cities in Austria and Italy, for example, that BA serves only from Gatwick so these too are now much easier to reach.”

A spokesperson from Flybe said: “Flybe is pleased to be able to connect passengers from the North East to the rest of the world by means of our codeshare with British Airways. As the UK’s number one domestic airline, we are committed to keeping the country on the move and deals like this are fundamentally important the UK regions.”

British Airways’ Airport Manager, Angela Cook, added: “We are delighted that Flybe has commenced a codeshare agreement with British Airways from Newcastle. It is a wonderful opportunity for BA to regain links with London Gatwick and build on our long-haul services from the airport’s North Terminal. Our ground handling agent at Newcastle, manage both Flybe and BA. This will ensure our operations, and the service our customers receive, see the benefits of an even greater working relationship going forward.”

Customers can take advantage of this seamless process by booking online on the British Airways website or by speaking to their local travel agent. Flybe flies to London Gatwick up to four times a day from Newcastle.
