Emirates goes to great lengths to celebrate airport anniversary

The 242ft Boeing 777-300ER which operated Emirates’ daily flight from Dubai is longer than any other aircraft to have used the airport. It carries 428 passengers - over 50% more than the aircraft normally used on the route.

The larger aircraft enabled Emirates to break another airport record when it carried 418 passengers on the return flight from Newcastle to Dubai – the largest passenger load to ever depart on a scheduled flight from Newcastle.

Laurie Berryman, Emirates’ Area Manager UK North, said: “We’re delighted to be marking Newcastle Airport’s important day with our supersized aircraft. With the record number of passengers on our flight to Dubai today, we hope it won’t be too long before we introduce it permanently on services from the North East.”

Emirates also offered bucks fizz and cake to all of its passengers travelling on today’s flight to celebrate the airport’s anniversary.
