Recent research has shown a huge 98 per cent of passengers have waited less than ten minutes to travel through security checks at Newcastle Airport. With approximately 13,000 passengers a day expected to pass through the Airport over the coming months, the Airport is keen to remind passengers of the security regulations they need to prepare for. Three easy steps have been identified that will ensure less time is spent passing through security.
Will Dougherty, Director of operations at Newcastle International, said: “The simple rule is to pack suntan lotions, gels, creams and perfumes in your suitcase and check them into the hold. If you need any essential liquid items with you on the flight, make sure they are in containers of 100ml or smaller and are put inside a clear, re-sealable plastic bag. As always, make sure you, your family or friends leave plenty of time to travel to the Airport and get through to Departures. The sooner you’re here, the sooner you can relax and get into the holiday mood.”
Full details of security regulations are available on the Newcastle Airport website, www.newcastleairport.com, and passengers are urged to check their own hand luggage prior to arriving at the airport. Clear plastic bags are provided free of charge at the entrance to the security search area.

Notes to editors:
The current Department for Transport regulations in relation to hand luggage are as follows:
• Passengers may carry small quantities of liquids they have brought from in their hand luggage, but only in separate containers each no more than 100ml.
• These containers must be brought to the airport contained in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which itself must not exceed 1 litre in capacity, roughly 20cm by 20cm.
• The contents of the plastic bag must fit comfortably in the hand luggage with the bag sealed.
• Liquids that cannot be placed inside the re-sealable bag must be packed into suitcases and checked in.
• Essential medicines and baby food sufficient for journey are permitted. Passengers are strongly advised to check the Department for Transport guidelines before travelling to the airport. Visit www.dft.gov.uk for further details.
