First Aid Course

The First Aid at Work Course is designed to provide the delegate with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to deal with a first aid call.

Course overview

The course material and handouts are used in conjunction with current HSE First Aid at Work legislation and guidance. Delegates are assessed at the end of the course on knowledge and practical skills.

  • Aim

To provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills, for dealing with a first aid call at work.

  • Dates

Courses are available throughout the year on request.

  • Locations

Either at the academy's premises or on your own site. (Subject to site survey)

  • Duration

Initial First Aid at work (3 day duration)
Refresher course, every 3 years (2 day duration)
Emergency First Aid at Work course (1 day duration) non assessable
Note: 3-day duration can be split to assist with organisational needs.

-Administration and Introduction
-Course Aims and Objectives
-Management of the unconscious casualty
-Respiration
-Asphyxia
-Principles of resuscitation
-Rescue breathing and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
-Circulatory blood loss and shock
-Control of bleeding (practical dressings)
-First Aid kits HSE regulations
-Reporting of accidents: correct form filling.
-Burns and scalds
-Practical cover bandages
-Nervous system
-Concussion and compression
-Major illnesses
-Poisoning
-CPR (Cardio pulmonary resuscitation)
-Treatment to upper fractures
-Treatment to lower fractures
-Soft tissue injuries
-Spinal injuries
-Handling and transporting casualties
-CPR practice
-Treatment of eye injuries
-Effects of extreme heat and cold
-Practical incidents
-Assessments
-Course evaluation and critiques.

Note:

The programme critique is the same for the 3 day course and the 2 day course.
